Peter Marshall Design is a custom furniture and design studio based in Western Colorado, specializing in CNC-fabricated hardwood furniture, integrated lighting systems, and resin-based material work. Each project is developed through a structured process that connects design intent, material selection, and fabrication precision to produce custom-built furniture for residential and commercial interiors.
How a Commission Works
Every project follows a clear, collaborative workflow from concept to installation. The studio operates through a design-led process. Each project begins with a concept development phase that establishes direction, scope, and feasibility before moving into fabrication planning or pricing.
Material Focus
Inquiry
Projects begin with an initial discussion covering scope, space, timeline, and intent. This determines feasibility and project direction.
Concept
Initial concepts are developed based on function, scale, material direction, and overall design intent. This stage establishes the foundation of the piece.
Design Development
3D modeling and technical development refine all aspects of the project including:
- proportions
- materials
- joinery
- surface detailing
- functional systems
- Client feedback is incorporated before fabrication begins.
- Fabrication
Work is produced in-studio using a combination of digital and traditional methods. Processes may include:
- CNC machining
- Solid wood fabrication
- Resin integration
- Metal fabrication (as needed)
- Surface preparation and assembly
- Each piece is built for structural integrity and long-term use.
Finishing
All surfaces are hand-finished to achieve the intended tone, texture, and durability. Finishing is tailored to the material and design requirements of each project.
Installation
Completed work is delivered and installed to ensure proper fit, alignment, and integration within the space.
Capabilities
The studio works across custom furniture and interior fabrication, including:
- Custom hardwood furniture
- Built-in cabinetry and architectural millwork
- CNC fabrication and precision machining
- Epoxy resin integration
- Integrated lighting systems
- Mixed-material construction (wood, steel, resin)
Work is defined by precision, structural clarity, and controlled material expression.
Collaboration
Projects are developed in close collaboration with clients, designers, architects, and builders. The process is structured but flexible, allowing for refinement while maintaining technical clarity.
Timeline
Timelines vary depending on scope and complexity.
Typical structure:
- Design: 1–3 weeks
- Fabrication: 3–8+ weeks
- Installation: scheduled per project

STUDIO PRACTICE
An experimental branch of Peter Marshall Design focused on material studies, lighting systems, resin work, and iterative fabrication research. This practice explores small-batch development, prototype furniture systems, and experimental material applications outside of commissioned work.
